Flying with gummies? Do they melt? TSA rules?

Hey all! I'm heading to a national park for some hiking and photography next week. I want to take my kids' gummy vitamins along, but I'm worried about them melting in my bag during the flight or in the heat on the trail. Also, what are the TSA rules for gummies? Has anyone had experience with this?

Great question! I've flown with gummies many times. They don't melt in the plane cabin because it's air-conditioned, but they can get soft if left in a hot car. I suggest packing them in a carry-on, not in checked luggage, to avoid extreme temps in the cargo hold. TSA doesn't have specific rules for gummies; they're just like any solid food. Just keep them in the original container or a clear baggie. I've never had a problem.

I'm a bit paranoid about melting, so I put them in a small insulated lunch bag with an ice pack when I travel. For hiking, I use a tiny cooler or just keep them in my backpack's insulated pocket. Also, once they melt and re-solidify, they can get squishy and stick together, but they're still fine. If you're worried, you can put them in the fridge at your destination to firm up.

As a grandpa who's taken my grandkids on trips, I always bring their gummies. I've found that they do get a bit soft in the car during summer road trips. So I keep them in a small cooler or insulated bag. Also, TSA never even blinked at gummies. They're not liquids or gels, so you're good. Just don't bring any other liquids in your carry-on that exceed 3.4oz, LOL.
