Okay so I tried making my own sea moss gummies at home using gelatin and a vitamin powder mix I found online. I followed the recipe to a T but they turned out super chewy, like rubber bands! Any tips on how to get them softer? Also, they smell kinda fishy, is that normal?

Hey Daphne! I've been there. The rubber band issue is usually too much gelatin. Try reducing the gelatin by like 1/4 tsp or add a bit more liquid. Also, are you using bloomed gelatin? That's important. For the fishy smell, maybe your sea moss powder is low quality. I get mine from a local health food store, it's usually pretty neutral.

I second TeaTina. Also, make sure you're not boiling the mixture too long. High heat can break down the gelatin and make it rubbery. I use agar instead sometimes, but that gives a firmer texture. For softer gummies, maybe try adding some fruit puree? It adds moisture. And if the smell bugs you, lemon juice or a bit of vanilla extract can mask it.

Daphne, if you're using vitamin C powder, that can also mess with the gelling. I had a batch fail because of that. Try mixing your vitamin powder with a little water first before adding to the gelatin. Also, store them in an airtight container in the fridge – they get softer after a day or two. Don't give up!
