My Sleep Gummies turned into rocks – still safe?
Hey folks, I bought a jar of Sleep Gummies (melatonin + chamomile) about 2 months ago. They were fine initially, but now they're hard as rocks and some are stuck together. Also noticed a white powdery coating on a few. Is this normal? Should I toss them or are they still okay to eat?
That white powder is likely sugar bloom – happens when moisture gets in and the sugar crystallizes. It's not harmful, but it can affect texture. The hardening is also common with gummies, especially if they're exposed to air. I'd say they're still safe, but maybe less effective? Wouldn't worry too much, but if they taste off, give them the boot.
I've seen that happen with my gummy vitamins when I leave them in a hot car or near a window. They get chewy and then hard. As long as there's no mold or weird smell, they're fine. But honestly, for sleep gummies, I'd rather not risk it – melatonin is cheap, just get a fresh batch. Consistency matters.
Thanks for the input! I'll check for mold/smell tonight. Since they're only 2 months old, maybe I'll try to revive them by putting a slice of bread in the jar? I've heard that softens them back up. Any experience with that?
Funny you mention that – I've tried the bread trick with regular gummy bears. It works to soften, but might also introduce moisture and cause more sticking. Best to store them in a cool, dry place with silica packets. If you do the bread thing, use it for a few hours, then take it out. And keep the jar tightly closed. Good luck!
